Plan receives funds from a variety of sources:
Child sponsorship - In Ireland, almost 8,000 people sponsor children with Plan (Aug 08), globally more than a million committed supporters sponsor children. These supporters are Plan's largest source of funds, their continuinig financial support allows Plan to support children and their communities with sustainable projects that encourage long-term self-reliance.
Grants - Plan Ireland also receives funding from from Irish Aid, the official overseas aid division of the Irish government and a number of corporate and private funds.
How the money is spent - 80% of funds raised are spent on projects in the core areas of education, health, livelihood, habitat and building relationships. All staff, office, building, management and other costs not directly related to overseas development work are covered by the other 20%.
Claiming tax relief on your donation
Please download the Revenue Commisioners form on this page so Plan Ireland can claim the income tax you have paid on donations. If you sponsor a child for €22 a month and are on PAYE at the standard rate of 20% it will mean an extra €62.50 is available to Plan. If you pay at the higher rate of 41% your donation is worth an additional €173.73
Self assessed or corporate tax payers can claim relief on charitable donations.
