Plan in Pakistan
Pakistan is bordered on the west and north by Iran and Afghanistan; on the northeast by China; and on the east by India.
Pakistan's economy is based on agriculture. Over 50% of the labour force is employed in this sector of the economy. The most important export items are cotton products, leather, rice, carpets and rugs.
Living standards vary considerably between rural and urban areas. Most houses in the rural areas lack a proper sewage system. The houses are made of loose bricks, and kept together with clay or mud. Roofs are generally made of leaves and branches. Some houses have roofs of corrugated iron kept in place with stones and bricks.
The key areas of our work in Pakistan include:
Growing up healthy: ensuring children’s survival, protection and healthy development
Learning: helping children, youth and adults learn and develop life skills
Habitat: building secure, safe and healthy environments for children
Giving children a voice: creating opportunities for children to participate in community development
Emergency response and rehabilitation: Currently work is on going following the 2005 earthquake in the North Western Frontier Province
